Paula Damkoehler, BA, Social Worker, North Ridge

Paula graduated in 1999 from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor’s in Social Work, and began at Dobie Road in 2013.  Paula is interested in all areas of social services, but Alzheimer’s and Dementia is where her heart is.  She feels Dobie has a fantastic social services team with everyone meshing together very well.  As a facility, Paula feels Dobie continues to be the best in the field whether it’s Rehab, Long Term Care, or Dementia.

Martha (Marty) Schooley, BA, Social Worker, North Ridge

Marty has a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Community Service with a Family Systems Concentration, from Siena Heights University as well as an Associate’s Degree in Human Services from LCC.  She has been a social worker and part of Team Dobie since 2007, specializing in memory care of older adults with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and is a trained bereavement facilitator.  Marty has a passion for working with older adults in part because of a great relationship with her grandparents.  “I realize there is so much to be learned from older adults as they have experienced things younger generations will never know.  My own grandmother was in long term care and I knew I could make a difference in this setting.”  Marty’s experience with her own mother’s Dementia has also helped her to understand what our resident’s and their families go through on a daily basis and gives her the ability to help them through their journey.    “The thing I enjoy the most about working at Dobie Road is the relationships I build with my resident’s and their families.  I’m proud to be a part of the social services team here as I know we have an excellent reputation in the community, have a caring and loving staff, and we provide the best care around!”

Shelly Norris, BS, Social Worker, South Ridge

Shelly graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology from UMUC-Europe division, which she received while living in Germany.  Shelly has been able to make a difference here at Dobie since 2013, and loves all the relationships she has been able to grow with residents and their families.  Shelly feels she is honored to have worked with our greatest generation for almost her whole life.  From volunteering, to dietary aid, to CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant), Shelly has always considered nursing facilities her second home.  She loves working at Dobie because of a great team that works together to improve the lives, and truly enjoys being able to encourage, support, care for, listen to, learn from people every day.

Jaclyn Cartwright, LLBSW, Social Worker, South Ridge/Rehab

Jaclyn graduated with a Bachelor’s in Social Work from Saginaw Valley State University in 2013.  She went into social work initially wanting to work with children until her senior year of college when she discovered her love for gerontology during an internship at a commission on aging.  “It opened my eyes to the unmet needs in this population, and I felt compelled to help,” Jaclyn says.  Jacklyn loves working at Dobie and says that “immediately upon starting (at Dobie), I could tell that the residents were the number one focus, and that the staff works as a team to make sure that doesn’t change.”
