Take a look below and if you don’t see your question answered already, you can contact us directly.[/vc_column_text][large_separator][vc_toggle title=”What kind of dementia training do your caregivers receive?” open=”false”]Our care givers receive 6 hours of dementia training called “Hand in Hand” by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare.  This applies to all newly hired employees as well as completed training for all of our current staff.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”How can I set up a tour?” open=”false”]You can set up a tour to see our facility and meet some of our staff by clicking here on Schedule a Tour, or by clicking the Schedule a tour button on our homepage.  Or – feel free to give us a call at 517-381-6193.  You can also take a virtual tour of our campus from our home page.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”How do I know if it’s time for Long Term Care?” open=”false”]One of the hardest decisions for families is determining the need for long term care or memory care placement of a loved one.  Families will often delay in making the decision until an unfortunate circumstance presents itself that brings to light the fact that their loved one is not receiving the care and supervision they need.  There are programs available that can assist seniors with “aging in place”, but how can it be determined when those programs aren’t enough for your loved one to remain safely at home?  Some signs that you should consider placing an aging loved one with trained staff are:  1. keep missing a doctor’s apartment and forgetting that they need to see a physician. 2. Forget to take their medications, or are taking them incorrectly and unsafely. 3. The house isn’t clean like it used to be. 4. The refrigerator is either empty or full of stale foods. 5. Keep on wearing the same clothes either because they can no longer do their own laundry or they are forgetting to put on fresh clothes daily.

Ultimately you have to put the safety and health of your parent before the difficulty of the decision.     Below are some links to additional programs that can assist you in determining the need for care of an aging loved one.

What should I bring?” open=”false”]At Dobie, you will need to bring a copy of your insurance card, about 7 days of comfortable, loose fitting clothes appropriate for exercise, a pair of non-skid shoes (and slippers if you would like), any personal items you would like to have (favorite toiletries, cell phone, laptop, tablet), Power of Attorney paperwork, if applicable.  At Dobie Road – all of your health and beauty items will be provided.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”How much therapy will I receive?” open=”false”]At the Rehabilitation Services of Ingham County, or “Dobie Road”, you can expect about 1-3 hours a day of physical and occupational therapy 5-6 days per week (depending on your individual abilities and goals).  A therapy program incorporating your surgeon’s specific discharge instructions will be individualized just for you, ensuring you stay within the Sparrow pathway for recovery.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Will I need to bring my medications from home?” open=”false”]No, your medications while at inpatient rehabilitation are covered by insurance and filled upon admission.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”I have 100 days of therapy through Medicare; will I be in rehab for 100 days?” open=”false”]100 days of benefit, does not mean you will need 100 days of Rehab.  Your length of stay will depend on your individual needs.  Medicare, Managed Medicare HMO’s and commercial health insurances have guidelines and criteria they require you to meet in order to receive inpatient therapy, for instance, making rehabilitation progress and meeting goals.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Do I need to bring any equipment with me (ie. wheelchair, walker, etc.)?” open=”false”]The only equipment you will need to bring is a C-PAP, if you are required to have one.  All other equipment is provided by Dobie Road while you are here.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Will you provide laundry service for me?” open=”false”]Yes!  Just have all of your clothes labeled with your first and last name and we will be happy to take care of that for you, or if you prefer, your loved ones can take your laundry home.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”What are visiting hours?” open=”false”]There are not set visiting hours at Dobie Road, loved ones are welcome to come and go as they please.  If your loved one would like to join you for a meal, let the unit secretary know and arrangements can be made.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”How is the food?” open=”false”]Our food is one of the things we get complimented on the most.  We take a lot of pride in preparing our meals fresh daily and include a homemade soup of the day every day.  Our Chef works with the Dining Services Supervisor and Registered Dietician to ensure your meals are healthy and full of flavor.  Remember it’s ALWAYS a delicious day in Dobie dining services![/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”What is a DPOA and do I need one?” open=”false”]A Durable Power of Attorney is someone you designate to make decisions for you, in the event that you are unable to speak for yourself.  There are two types of DPOA’s- general durable power of attorney, which handles financial matters and durable power of attorney for health care, which handles health care decisions, including end of life.  You are not required to designate a durable power of attorney, but we strongly recommend that you do so (especially a durable power of attorney for health care).  If two physicians deem you unable to make sound decisions and you do not have a durable power of attorney for health care, the facility or your family may need to seek a court-appointed guardian to make medical decisions for you.  The social services department can assist you in filling out DPOA paperwork.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Can I afford long term care?” open=”false”]If you have Long Term Care Insurance, contact your insurance agent to get details on what your coverage is and what benefits you have.  If you do not have long term care insurance and you or a loved one is in need of service you can contact the Tri County Office on Aging at 517-887-1440 or toll free at 800-405-9141to discuss what insurance you have and if it will cover LTC.  Other resources are:
